Log Trucks Made in Gabon
Press Review - L'Union, January 12 1998

The SOGI Company, a member of the SOGAFRIC Group, has just built about thirty vehicles that were delivered to their buyers on schedule, thus fulfilling the requirements of an international call to tenders made by Bordamur.

Gabon is now part of the very select club of log truck builders, thanks to the Gabonese Industrial Company, SOGI, that has just put on the market 30 "heavy" vehicles in order to fulfill the requirements of an international call to tenders made by Bordamur. This has been made possible through hard work and the vehicles were delivered 15 days ahead of schedule.

This feat is to be recorded with golden letters in the history of the Gabonese heavy industry. "The making of log trucks, following an international call to tenders, puts the Gabonese industry at the forefront worldwide," explains SOGI's general manager, Mr. Marie-François. After having stated that his company already exports some vehicles of the same kind in the region, especially in the Republic of Congo, in Cameroon, and in Equatorial Guinea, Mr. Marie-François reveals that this is the first time SOGI executes such an operation of such a scope. "The design and building are indeed made in-house by SOGI. This is, therefore, Gabonese product," he underscores. As for the features of this "made in Gabon log truck," Mr. Marie-François says they are of the Herse heavy truck with a double row of jettisonable BPW set of wheels with a high level of resistance. Flexible and welded, this is an eight-wheel trailer with a braking and electrical system that complies with traffic laws.

SOGI is already locally well-known for its performance in the fields of general boiler making, heavy equipment, ship building, fine plate making, metal structure and metalwork, general mechanic, and diesel injection. With the making of these log trucks, SOGI adds, to its already wide range of skills, a new one. Created in 1975, it possesses a highly skilled staff, most of whom are Gabonese.
